Bangladeshi-born British entrepreneur Shelim embarked on his first business venture at the age of 18 while studying at Coleg Glan Hafren. Seeing a gap in the market for prawn supply, Shelim started his business selling boxes of frozen prawns with an initial capital of only £20 – which he has transformed into a multi-million pound empire.
In 1993, Shelim established Eurofoods Ltd, a thriving business which has rapidly grown to employ over 200 staff, with food processing units in Newport, Barking and Sunderland. The company also operates in Bangladesh, and New York.
Shelim’s contribution to business in the UK has earned the entrepreneur a host of highly renowned accolades. In 2003, Shelim received the Eastern Eye Young Achiever award presented by Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, and he was nominated for Young Achiever at the Asian Jewel Awards. In 2005, Shelim went on to win the AoC Gold Award for Further Education Alumni, and In 2011 he was awarded the Personality of the Year at the British Curry Awards, which was presented via video message by Prime Minister David Cameron.
